2009: Top 10 reform events

Norml released an article recently discussing the top 10 pro-reform events of 2009 and you can be sure we are on top of covering it. Did some of our most covered events such as the Obama administration’s decision to stop pursuing prosecutions, or the first pot cafe opening in Oregon make the list?

The number 1 event on NORML’s list is the Obama decision, as it should be. As we have discussed before, this was a huge step forward for moving away from the old-school mentality of our government and towards true reform.

Review: RooR Icemaster 7.0

Today’s post marks the beginning of a long series of RooR bong reviews, and also regular bong reviews. We own many of these bongs and are reviewing them in that sense, and we will also be purchasing the remaining specifically to review. The first review will be the RooR Icemaster 7.0 Custom Oasis

This bong is made with 7mm thick Borosilicate glass - You can tell by the 7.0 in the name of the bong. It weighs 1140 grams and is about a foot and a half tall which is perfect for a bedroom or coffee table piece. A RooR diffuser can be added due to its standard 18.8 mm joint size. The ice catcher works great and allows you to load this baby up with plenty of ice to allow a much smoother and thicker hit than normally possible. The 3 piece design make this bong difficult to break, but just in case you do drop it the bong is designed to break at the downstem so you do not damage the main body.

This custom edition Icemaster also features a green RooR logo, and a green and red rasta mouthpiece. It also has a sand-blasted hemp leaf decorating the shaft of the bong opposite the RooR logo.

In Summary: This bong will make a great daily smoker for just about the pickiest smoker. It is one of the smoothest hitting and most conveniently sized RooR that I have used. My favorite by far and I highly recommend it - you will not be sorry. The cost of the bong is $498.48 and includes a free grinder with your order.

Stunning reversal in NJ Medical 420 case

After an unexpected reversal in the NJ trial of a man accused of growing over 17 marijuana plants, a judge has allowed him to testify in court regarding his medical condition which he claims is the reason for the plants in question. Although he was only allowed to speak one sentence during the preceding, his attorney considers this a big help to the case. The judge has also made it clear that no follow up on his medical condition will be permitted. Medical Marijuana activists consider this a big win for advocates of the plants’ medicinal purposes.

Trial Begins for dispensary manager

In San Diego, A trial is beginning for a dispensary manager which the DA claims is selling marijuana for profit. Under California state law, organization’s called collectives are legally allowed to sell pot for medical purposes to individuals with the proper documentation. The detectives are claiming that they bought pot from him on multiple occasions, and were forced to pay a membership fee which they claim violates the law. The defense attorney on the case claims that membership fees can legally be connected, as long as they go towards the cultivation costs of the dispensary.

With the recent news of he Los Angeles DA declaring war on these types of dispensaries, but Obama asking the federal government to stop going after them, it seems that the state of medical marijuana is in a constant flux.

The baby boomer’s view on pot culture

Now that the hippies of days past are starting to age, it seems that they are starting to see a shift in the perception of pot and its acceptance into pop culture. Many of these people are user’s that gave it up years ago in lieu or more important things, but there are also those that never quit. They put up a pretty good argument that there is obviously no societal cost that smoking pot affords. It is good to see more of these people getting more comfortable talking about it, as communication is going to be key to overcoming the hurdle of cultural acceptance.

First pot cafe opens in Oregon

I had a good friend give me a call this morning to alert me to this Reuters article about a marijuana cafe that is opening in Oregon. This is related to the previous article I wrote about the Obama administration shifting their focus from legal marijuana user’s to bigger targets. This cafe’s existence depends solely on them following these guidelines, so we will see how this pans out in the long term.

US Loosens grasp on medical marijuana laws

The Obama administration recently instructed federal prosecutors not to go after medical marijuana user’s that follow the state guidelines. Critics of Obama have been questioning his earlier campaign promises to not support the bush administration’s policy of enforcing federal laws in the wake of state legislation which allows it. The administration instead told the prosecutor’s to focus on suspects that were transporting or selling large amounts, and on drug related violence.

Some counter culture advocates are elated that the president is finally taking steps towards a more tolerant US.
